World Class Skin Cancer Care

Whether your goal is prevention, detection, or treatment of skin cancer, we have the expertise and resources to get it done. Ensure that you are in competent hands by turning to Bathurst Street Skin Cancer Clinic.

Skin Assessment and Mapping

  • The Bathurst Street Skin Cancer Clinic uses the state-of-the-art FotoFinder skin cancer detection system which is used around the world.
  • On your first visit, images of your skin surface will be taken using a digital FotoFinder HD camera.
  • The images will then be stored within the FotoFinder software program—the full-body foundation mapping procedure takes around 30 minutes.
  • The images are magnified 20-140x and, using a special polarised or non-polarised dermatoscopic camera, the detailed structure of the lesion or mole can be seen.
  • Early changes to your skin can be detected as the image is enlarged to fill the entire monitor screen.
  • The FotoFinder HD system enables the doctor to visually compare a current series of images against the previous images taken to identify changes or the development of new lesions.
  • The comparison of moles using this system results in fewer unnecessary removals.
  • Images can be transferred to a USB drive you can bring if moving interstate or overseas.
  • Single-spot checks are also available using the FotoFinder HD technology.

Treatment Options

Some spots on the skin may not require any immediate treatment, and with regular skin checks, any changes can be monitored.

Should a lesion require treatment, your doctor will discuss treatment options with you. These may include cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen), topical therapy (with a medical cream treatment), skin biopsy, or a surgical excision.

Our skilled medical practitioners are able to undertake surgical treatment where required. This may range from simple elliptical excisions, to the use of skin grafts or skin flap repairs. Our team can determine which type of surgery would be most suitable for your case. For larger or more complex repairs, we refer to, and liaise with local plastic surgeons to give you the best possible outcome.

Some types of superficial skin cancers respond to non-surgical treatments - often a more favourable alternative to surgery. These may include:

  • Photodynamic Therapy: This treatment involves the use of a sensitising cream and light source, which can either be daylight or a special medical lamp.
  • Cryotherapy: This method involves the freezing of skin cancer cells with liquid nitrogen. It can be used to treat pre-cancerous solar keratosis and certain superficial types of skin cancer.
  • Medical Cream Treatments (e.g Efudix, Aldara, Picato, and Solaraze): These creams target skin cancer cells or induce an immune response that treats these cells.
  • Radiotherapy: This method can be a suitable alternative for treating non-melanoma skin cancers. Also, it is used as a form of therapy for some persistent or invasive forms of skin cancer. Your doctor may suggest referral to a radiation oncologist in some select instances.
